In this workshop, you’ll explore the graceful art of dancing with silk fan veils - a mindful blend of breath, movement, and expression. Throughout the class, we’ll focus on finding your flow and dancing with the silk as an extension of your body and rhythm. Dancing with fan veils can become a moving meditation - an invitation to embody softness and strength, freedom and flow. We’ll combine multiple fan veils moves with simple bellydance steps, culminating in a short choreography.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

🔥Multiple fan veil holds

🔥Accentuated arm movements and spins with fan veils

🔥Windmills and three-beat weaves with fan veils

Levels: Beginner to intermediate

What to Bring: Fan veils! A limited number of extra fan veils will be available to borrow.

Online Option: Available!

About Your Instructor

Amber has been bellydancing for over 25 years, finding in dance and flow arts a creative outlet for expressing emotion and embodying freedom. As a member of Dance Hipnotique, she loves performing group choreography at community festivals throughout St. Louis. For several years, she has loved incorporating silk fan veils into her choreographies to create visually dynamic movements that express both softness and strength.

Get ready for Salwa’s latest choreography – a high-energy, expressive piece that balances technique and emotion; it is simple, yet challenging to Amoot Ana by Mahmoud El Esseily.

Amoot Ana (I Die/I’m Dying) is an upbeat, romantic song that expresses extreme, yet playful adoration for a romantic partner.

The movements in this dance are heavily inspired by the legendary Jamila Salimpour’s* grass root’s format.

Make sure to bring: plenty of water, a sweat towel, & wear deodorant please :P

Here’s what you’ll learn:

🔥Basic Jamila Salimpour Movement

🔥Choreography based on Movements taught

🔥Choreography Notes

🔥How to make a choreography your own (time permitting... OR it will be saved for a follow-up Fourth Sunday class)

Levels: Intermediate to Advanced

Online Option: None
